Yoncé Your Life
YOU HAVE THE SAME 24 HOURS IN THE DAY AS BEYONCE.
I had heard this once before and for whatever reason it has really stuck with me.
It’s not some profound statement that really shakes the earth but it does kinda slap ya in the face a bit; like ‘get over it, you have the time!’
Balance in life is not a thing to earn and keep. It is more of a game. Even if you have been playing a great round, out of nowhere you get dealt an unpredicted hand and your momentum is thrown completely off course.
Balance won’t always come easy, it may even feel like more work to achieve it, but it is necessary and it is worth the extra work.
Planning on Paper
I use and recommend a paper planner (though I use both paper and electronic.)
I’m a bit weird…I color code with pens in my planner but I input it all into my phone as well just so I have it everywhere I go as my planner is far too big to tow with me.
Writing your goals, plans, ideas, intentions, achievements, errands all down not only puts strength into the things you want and need to do but also holds you accountable.
Planning your life on any level (day, week, month, year) may seem neurotic to some but it is by far one of the most important things successful people do.
Check out planners I like!
Break it Down
Look at your year, this does not need to be during the “new years resolution” time frame, the year is always moving and ever changing so don’t think that you have to makes changes in January and then once you pass that time frame you’re S.O.L. Uh no.
Time does not stop, the world does not stop, your life does not stop, so neither should your forward thinking, goal establishment, and living your life best you can!
Look at…
12 months -
These are your large goals; saving a certain amount of money for something in particular (debt, home, car, renovation, trip) with deadlines even if you are not positive on these dates.
Take each large goal individually and establish what the steps will be to reach those goals. This could easily change as the year progresses and most likely will along will other steps that arise that you were unaware of from the start.
Start narrowing down these steps as well as your smaller goals ie; date night once a week, taking the dog to the dog park, monitoring your budgets, on a monthly, weekly and daily level.
Thats why these planners are so fabulous. You have your whole year you can keep track of and truly see the time in front of you, while also having the ability to break it down and not feel overwhelmed or unorganized.
Adding Exercise into Your Schedule
Using the tools above, plan your exercise for your day and your week. Previously, you may have thought adding this into your schedule ahead of time like you do your meetings, study time, trips etc. was not necessary and that you would figure it out as the week went on.
Think back, how many days or weeks or months have gone by with you saying the same thing.
Continuing the same habits will give you the results you already have. If you want something more, something different, something better you must practice habits that will get you there.
Schedule Free Time
This is where the balance scale either topples over or sits pretty, nice and even.
Free time doesn’t have to be sitting on tuckus doing nothing. This is time is spent doing the things that refill your tank.
For me, that’s long walks with my pup because he deserves that extra exercise and mama attention, that’s sleeping a few extra hours, getting a massage, reading, laundry and house cleaning, meeting with friends for breakfast, going dancing, taking a bath.
If you look at your 24 hours as a bucket of balls, each ball representing an hour of your time. Remove all the time dedicated to your main job(s), remove all the time for taking care of your kids or running errands and meetings around town, remove your exercise time, remove your travel time, now remove the rest of your time you consider to be work, whether it’s “stressful” or not.
You may take a peek into that bucket and see nothing.
This continuous habit will lead to implosion.
Make it a habit to refuel your mind, spirit and soul with the things and people you love in your life. It keeps your bucket full so you can move forward and keep giving your best self to all the aspects of your life that need you.
